MANXTER #2 UPGRADES
As viewers to this site know, last year we did some work to Manxter #2 to get it ready for the new owner. After a summer of fun with the Manxter the owner has decided that some new changes will make it even more fun, so #2 has been shipped to ECR for another round of upgrades. A buggy is never "done", there is always something new to install.

One of the first changes was to install a quieter exhaust. The Manx exhaust is great for performance, but not so great cruising around the towns on Nantucket, so we bought in a new system for the buggy and then sent it out to be Jet-Hot coated. Once we got the system back we installed it on the buggy. It still has a nice sound, but a little less "bark".

We also upgraded the ignition system to the latest Compu-Fire multi-coil system that eliminates the points, rotor and distributor cap in the system. This makes for a better spark and better performance and it has a side benefit that the buggy will never suffer from corroded points while it lives on the island, in that harsh salt air. Above you can see the new distributor pick up and the 2 coil packs that deliver massive amounts of power to the plugs.

We also made some changes to the transaxle and the shifting of the buggy. The transaxle was set up with freeway flyer gearing, and that may work on the interstate, but it doesn't work on Nantucket, so we had the guys at Rancho Transaxle set up the gearing for a more well rounded package that can do everything well. Once the re-geared transaxle was put in we also installed a new shift rod bushing and a new Berg locking shifter to make it easy to get all the gears and shift smoothly. The Berg shifter also has a lock so that you can lock it in reverse to keep the joy riders out of your buggy.

The harsh salt environment of Nantucket takes its toll on parts quickly. Even though #2 is not that old, the salt air had already pitted and corroded the wheel trim rings and the headlight assemblies. So these parts have been replaced with new to give the buggy a better, fresher look.
Now that all the upgrades have been completed we will go through and do a complete service of the buggy to get it ready for the customers island use. Then we'll transport it back to Hyannis so that it can be put on the ferry back to the island, now that is full service.
If you have needs for your buggy, from a simple fiberglass repair, to upgrades you want done, contact ECR, we can help.
