NAS Defender 90 Station Wagon with Safety Devices full rack installed by ECR

Back in 1997 you could go to your local Land Rover dealer and have them install a really cool roof rack. You can see that rack system in the image above on a 1995 NAS Defender 90 Station Wagon. It was made by a company in the UK called Safety Devices. These were the guys that made all the "NAS" (North America Specification) roll cage parts for the NAS Defenders and helped outfit all those cool Camel Trophy vehicles.

Safety Devices came up with this great rack that would fit the hard top or soft top NAS Defender 90, see an image of the Safety Devices rack on a 1994 NAS Defender 90 soft top above. The racks went out of production many years ago and until now the only way you could get one was to buy a beat up used one or buy a cheap copy.

ECR is now pleased to announce that we are working directly with Safety Devices in the UK to bring back a very limited edition of the correct NAS Defender 90 roof rack systems. These are identical to the originals and are being made by Safety Devices. So you no longer need to hunt down used or damaged bits, or go without a roof rack for your Defender 90, you can have the real thing.
These racks, being manufactured in early 2009, will be a limited edition run and only 25 NAS rack systems will be made.
Each will be 100% new parts and made by Safety Devices International Ltd.

The beauty of the Safety Devices Defender 90 rack was the rear ladder/support system. It allowed the full roof basket to be installed on a 1994-1997 NAS Defender 90 in either hard top or soft top form because it attached to the body and reached up and over the roof, see image above. It works with the factory fiberglass tops as well. The rear support not only held up the roof basket but it doubled as an easy to climb rear ladder to allow easy access to the items you may have up on the roof. It was a great system and used systems have been selling on ebay for more than these brand new limited edition systems will be selling for.
Keep in mind this is a very limited edition run of 25 rack systems.

The rack system includes all the parts needed to install it, as seen in the image above, including:
1x upper roof basket
1x rear ladder/support system with 3x backing plates
2x front cross bars
4x upgraded ROX roll cage bar clamps
Misc. stainless steel hardware
Detailed on-line fitting instructions

$ 2995. each (includes the parts listed above, packaged and ready for shipping. Shipping is additional)
(Now Sold Out
Stay tuned for a new rack design in the near future)

Above you can see an image of an upgraded ROX roll cage/rack clamp (prior to powder coating).
These units eliminate all the potential shortcomings of the original rack feet. They are stronger and better in every way, and they now come as standard equipment on all the NAS style racks sold by ECR.

Rack Production:

We thought we would share some images from inside the Safety Devices factory.

Here you can see a batch of rear ladders have been fabricated and have now been powder coated and are ready to be carefully wrapped and packed for shipping to ECR.

This image shows a batch of roof baskets completed and ready for shipping.

Each rack system is inspected and then wrapped completely before being securely loaded into a heavy duty crate to ensure a safe ride across the Atlantic.
Once the racks have arrived at ECR we inspect everything, add our stainless hardware bolt kit to them and then arrange shipping to you!

For those customer that want to do their own shipping, the crate dimensions are:
15"H x 59"W x 87"L and 330 pounds

Here is one of the new racks that we installed on a customers car from Southern Maine recently.

ECR is your Defender source and we work hard to not only bring you the best service and restorations on these unique vehicles, but also hard to find parts like the Safety Devices rack system.
