ECR ROX
RANGE ROVER CLASSIC REAR BUMPER
Installation Instructions
Thank you for your purchase of a ECR ROX Range Rover Classic rear bumper.
Below you will find a step by step process on how to install your bumper. If you have any questions feel free to call or email us.
To install your new ECR ROX bumper you need to remove the old one. The orange arrows above point to the areas you will be working on under the Range Rover, just so you can get a good idea of where you need to look.
Remove the nuts that hold on the side brackets for the plastic bumper end caps. These take a 10mm tool. Do this on the L and R side.
Remove the bolt that attaches the rear bumper blade to the frame. These require a 13mm tool. Do this on the L and R side. The bumper is now loose, so be careful.
The next step is best done with 2 people, one on each side. Pull out on the bumper end caps far enough so that the stud on the bracket comes out past the body. Do this on the L and R side.
While keeping the studs pulled away from the L and R side of the body and paint work, remove the bumper by pulling it backwards.
The ECR ROX bumper does not have a plastic cover that goes between it and the body. So at this stage we would suggest you paint or undercoat the lower body edge below the tailgate, as indicated above. This area will be seen and it will look better black or body color instead of rust/ dirt.
Next offer up the ROX bumper to the Range Rover. Once in the correct location, it will sit on the Rovers frame without having to hold it, but be careful, it is loose and could fall.
To make it clear what you will be doing we have removed the bumper to show you where the hardware goes. In your install you will be installing these 4 bolts with the bumper in place on the vehicle. These pictures are for clarification only.
The ROX bumper is held in place with 4 bolts, not 2 like the factory. We do use the 2 factory locations, but we also cross bolt the bumper to the frame for added stability. The red arrows point to the areas you will be working with.
Again, this image is with the bumper removed to get an easier picture. When you install these bolts you will need to have your bumper in place, on the back of the Rover.
Install the large horizontal cross bolt and washer through the bumper and through the frame (top arrow). You will need to wiggle and move the bumper to get everything lined up for the cross bolts. This is normal, and it isn't fun. Install the washer and nut on the other end of the bolt. Leave everything loose at this stage.
Then install the smaller bolt and washer down through the bumper and through the frame (lower arrow). Install the washer and nut on the other end of this bolt. Leave everything loose at this stage. Repeat this process on the other side of the Rover.
With the bumper in place this is what the hardware looks like in the correct locations. This is an image of the R side. When you have all 4 bolts with their washers and nuts in place loosely, have a friend hold the bumper exactly where you want it. While the bumper is being held, tighten all 4 bolts very tightly with 19mm or 3/4" tools.
Enjoy your new bumper!
