1993 NAS Defender 110 #116/500 Restoration
Galvanized frame and numerous upgrades

This 1993 NAS Defender 110, #116 out of 500, is another worn out 110, an all too common sight now that the NAS 110s are headed towards 20 years old. The owner of this NAS 110 had us restore it from the frame up to their specifications, with a new galvanized frame and much more.

As with any restoration we stripped this 110 down to its smallest piece and rebuilt it from the frame up on a galvanized frame. The truck was then put up for sale by the original client and was quickly purchased by a family who wanted a summer car for their island home. The problem was that the truck was not exactly what they wanted, it was close, but not perfect. So to create the perfect truck the new owners sent the 110 back to ECR for host of changes to make it exactly what they wanted.

Once the 110 arrived back at ECR we got to work making the very nice 110 a great 110. Here you can see we are already at it and have removed the factory roof basket, it will be getting replaced by a new ROX roof rack system.

The owners wanted leather seats, so we have stripped out the seating and sent it to our leather specialists at Shoreham Upholstery for them to work their magic with new black leather for the seats, with the front seats getting 2 stage seat heaters.

This image shows the new ROX roof rack that we fabricated for the 110. It meets all the customers demands for what they wanted from a rack and more. Now it will be loaded up and headed out for zinc and powder coating in satin black to match the safari cage.

A few days later the powder coated parts are back. The customer also had us do the rims in black to change the look of the 110 and make it look a little more aggressive. The newly coated rims were wrapped in some wide BFG tires to better handle the intended beach use that the 110 Wagon will get.

Inside the 110 there are more changes A new audio/video system is going in with twin 8" hidden subwoofers and a new Alpine touch screen navigation head unit. Here you can see the RH subwoofer box has been built and painted in body color and wired up. Next we will install the sub and get the cargo area buttoned up.

One big change the 110 is getting is a conversion from 5 speed manual to 4 speed automatic. To completed this we have removed all the 5 speed parts and installed the new automatic gearbox and the proper oil coolers and all to make sure everything works properly.

Inside the automatic conversion is being set up as well. ECR never does a job half way or cuts any corners, our automatic conversions are complete, just like if the factory had ever built a 300 Tdi automatic 110. The dead pedal and the brake pedal are all correctly installed so that driving the automatic 110 is easy and feels just like any other automatic vehicle.

The new gearbox is set up with all the correct linkages and fully wired into the vehicle's systems so that it all worked correctly. We also make sure to keep all the wiring in tact and we do not cut anything, so if by chance someone wishes to convert this 110 back to a 5 speed someday everything for the automatic simply unplugs with no damage done to the 110s main wiring harness.

Here you can see a new ROX bumper has been installed and set up with a new Warn 9000 winch and three Hella 4000 lights. The built in recovery points will help pull other stuck vehicles out of the beach sand and the skid plate will help protect the steering gear from harm.

The new ROX roof rack is back from powder coating and has been installed and set up with the equipment the customer desired. A shovel on the LH side...

two LED work/reverse lamps and a rear view camera on the back...

and a Hi-Lift jack on the RH side.

On top of the rack the floor makes a great spot to store gear or a place for the kids to hang out and watch the stars at night. As this truck is headed for the beach we have already set the entire truck up with everything it needs in order to get an oversand beach permit so that the owner does not have to go looking for anything in order to get the permit approved.

Here you can see the new leather seats have arrived and have been installed. The custom pattern on the leather looks factory and adds a nice custom touch to the interior.

The heated leather front seats will be a welcome addition on chilly mornings and the leather will help the interior last a good long time.

The single disc CD player has been replaced with a new Alpine touch screen system that handles everything, AM/FM, CD, DVD, iPod, USB audio and much more. The sound is all run through an Alpine digital 500 watt amp to drive the sound and the twin subwoofers and twin optima batteries will allow the music to continue as long as you like without fear of draining the truck's battery.

We also added a new sunroof to the 110 and...

a dog guard to keep the four legged friends safe.

Here you can see the automatic console is in place and everything in the interior looks very factory and like it was meant to be there, the ECR way.

Here you can see the completed NAS 110 #116 ready to head out to the owner's island home. It has all the custom changes that the customer wanted to make it their own and fit their lifestyle and needs. The truck will now be delivered to Hyannis so that it can meet the ferry and head out to its new home.
