1995 Defender 90 Soft Top #3035
Upgrades and Service

This 1995 Defender 90 soft top has come to ECR directly from the point of purchase so that we can get it ready for the new owner. The truck has really low mile, roughly 13,000 original miles, and is in great shape, but with not getting many miles in all those years comes a few issues. Vehicles don't really like to sit, so we have some service work to do to get the 90 brought back to life and we will also be installing some upgrades and adding some of the equipment that the owner desires to make the 90 into his personal vehicle. Once completed the 90 will head out to Illinois for years of Rover related fun.

Along with getting all the fluids and filters done, and simple upgrades like upgraded Bilstien shocks, upgraded ECR ROX oil cooler lines and lots of items under the Rover that will make it act better but not be seen, we are also adding one system that will both be seen and used, a full Air Conditioning system from Elite Automotive. In the image above you can see that we have installed the dash portion of the AC system. This AC system, available exclusively from ECR, plugs directly into the 1995 Defender wiring. There is no need to cut and splice any wires in this system. It plugs directly into the existing factory connectors and utilizes factory fuses for a correct and safe install of the system. Using the factory wiring also ties the AC system directly into the EFI system so that no engine idle "stumble" occurs when the compressor kicks in and no idle "flare" happens when the compressor turns off. No other Air Conditioning kit on the market for the NAS Defender 90 has this feature, and unlike other suppliers we stock all the small parts that may be needed to repair this system down the road so if something does happen to your AC system we can get the parts out to you that day, not a few weeks later.

Another upgrade the customer desired is the addition of 4 jump seats with seat belts in the back of the 90. We have installed a new load mat and have started to install the seats themselves. We use all stainless steel hardware that is isolated from the body with teflon washer and we also use spacers under the mat so that the mat does not "Squish out" making thing look bad and in the long term making the need for a new mat. Every upgrade we install is done with longevity in mind.

Here you can see the 90 a little further along in the process here at ECR. The service items and repairs have been taken care of and all the fluids and filters attended to. We have also made all the small adjustments that are needed when a 90 gets on in years and made sure everything is working 100%. Next up the upgrades will continue with upgraded door hinges going on, a stainless steel hardware kit and more.

This image shows the completed jump seats. These have seat belts so they are street legal and give you the option of carrying up to 6 people in the 90 for short hops. They also fold up out of the way when you want to carry bulky gear in the back of the 90.

Here you can see the GPS system and a new rear view mirror that the customer desired. We hard-wired the power source for the GPS unit so that there are no stringy cord draped all over the interior and made a nice simple cover for the dash to allow the wire to come out of it. As with most work done here at ECR these steps are reversible, so if the GPS ever comes out of the car all the stock parts just go right back in. We do our best not to drill extra holes or harm any factory wiring, thus keeping the value of your NAS Defender in tact.

The new rear view mirror has a small screen in it that shows the image from the back up camera we mounted to the rear of the Rover. It comes on automatically when you select reverse gear and is not only cool, but it could really help with hooking up a trailer.

We also added a few more consumer electronics in the form of an Alpine sound system with Alpine 500 watt amp, iPod connection and Bluetooth capability for the ultimate in hands free phone usage (you just talk to the truck!).

To add some bass to the system for correct sound reproduction, especially needed in the soft top 90, we added a 10" slim subwoofer mounted in our custom tailgate box that is made from strong materials and then Rhino-Lined for longevity.

We also added a set of JL Audio speakers to round out the system, shown above. This image also shows the controls of the AC system, the ECR ROX kick panel installed and the new floor mat installed to freshen up the look of the interior to reflect the low miles this 90 has.

Here you can see the new upgraded hinges have been painted the correct AA Yellow and have been installed with new stainless steel hardware for a long term solution to the weak and rusty original hinges.

The upgrades continue at the rear of the 90 where a set of ROX LED lamps have been installed and a simple mount with a foot guard has been installed for the rear view camera. The LEDs will mean an end to the typical 95-97 NAS Defender 90 fish bowls and they also are brighter, grabbing the attention of guy behind you better.

This image shows the nearly complete interior. The AC system is up and running, keeping things cool and the new sound system will make for a much better place to be on long drives, keep in mind the factory system is a tape deck!

Here you can see the completed 90 ready to head out to IL for a load of fun. The 90 has everything from a new AC system to upgraded Hella H4 headlights, LED tail lamps to a new set of Michelin tires for a nice street ride and so much more. The 1995 NAS Defender 90 soft top is now ready to go, and the new owner, having recently purchased the truck, won't have any worries about what he bought and if it will break down because he can roll with the piece of mind that the entire crew of ECR has just been completely through this vehicle and given it a clean bill of health and installed all his desired upgrades the right way.
