Series II Bulkhead Repair
This Series II bulkhead has come to us from a customer in SC that is doing his own restoration. The bulkhead is in great shape. It has a few needs but its repair will be a simple one in our bulkhead repair jig. This is sadly our last mail order bulkhead restoration. Our shop focus has changed and this will be our final Series bulkhead repair.
Here you can see that we repaired everything that needed attention and have media blasted the bulkhead back to white metal so that we can get it dunked and under primer with no rust issues at all.
This image shows the bulkhead after being dunked and topped off with 3 coats of PPG epoxy primer and 3 more coats of the correct single stage Blue. Series Rovers did not come in base/clear paints so unlike most body shops we don't spray Series Rover parts in base/clear, we spray them in the correct single stage paints for a correct look when your restoration is complete.
Here you can see the completed bulkhead. We have submerged the areas that usually rust in epoxy primer, across the top and down both sides. The dunk tanks, as we call them, get primer into places Rover never thought possible for great rust prevention and we have topped that off with a killer paint job in the customers chosen color. The owner will be doing his own assembly, but we have attached the panels that need to be hammer riveted on for him so that all the details of the bulkhead are correct and now it is ready to go back into the truck to complete the DIY restoration. Next we will package the bulkhead back into its crate and get it on the road back to SC.
