Series III Bulkhead Repair

This Series III bulkhead has come to us from a customer in SC that is doing his own restoration. The bulkhead is in pretty good shape. It suffers from rust due to the age of the vehicle it came out of, but its repair will be a simple one in our bulkhead repair jig.

Here you can see that we have media blasted the trouble spots on the bulkhead and have found all the pin holes and rust. We then cut away all those sections back to good solid white metal, and then start to fill everything back in with new steel. There was some minor accident damage to repair, but in the scope of what most Series III bulkheads look like these days, this one is a keeper.

This image shows the bulkhead nearly complete. The door post, feet and floor sections are now in place and all the damage and rust has been corrected. The next step is to fabricate the correct series door seal retainers on the door posts and then the bulkhead is headed for the dunk tanks.

Here you can see the completed bulkhead. We have submerged the areas that usually rust in epoxy primer, across the top and down both sides. The dunk tanks, as we call them, get primer into places Rover never thought possible for great rust prevention. The owner will be doing his own paint and body work so this is the finished product, ready for prep and paint. The custom also sent along a damaged vent flap for us to repair, but instead we got him a good used one. Next we will package the bulkhead back into its crate and get it on the road back to SC.
